There are many things that went wrong for Germany on Saturday in Poland but the most glaringly obvious reason for the loss was poor defending and poor finishing. With Thomas Muller, Goetze and Kroos the main threats through the center its surprising that Germany failed to convert any chances against Poland. The loss of Lahm to retirement, Schweinsteiger, Reus and Ozil to Injury did seem to take the heart out of the German midfield though and they struggled to impose themselves on their less talented oppoenents. On Tuesday they will face a Republic of Ireland team who are in a good vein of form and who look to be a new team under Martin O' Neill and Roy Keane.
This Ireland side will also remember the 6-1 hammering they took from Germany in the World Cup qualifiers and will be sure to be well up for this game. Robbie Keane is still the main man up top for Ireland but the midfield and backfour is almost unrecognizable with John O'Shea the only real mainstay from the last side. Mclean, Mcgeady will work their socks off on the wings and provide an attacking threat on the counter but on Tuesday their main job will be to defend their fullbacks and make sure that there is no space for the german wingers to work in.

While this is a tough game for me to handicap personally given my being from the Republic of Ireland I do honestly think that Ireland have a chance of going to Germany and coming away with something. Germany were far from impressive in both of their Group games thus far, struggling to beat Scotland and losing in Poland. I am going to take the Irish +1 on the half time handicap. I think Ireland can turn at the break still in this one and I like Irelands chances of maybe sneaking one on the counter. Follow me on twitter @antonpippo
