The Persistant Pest - Cavani to the Emirates?

This one has been in and out of the Media for most of the summer but papers are again speculating that PSG's Edison Cavani will be a big money signing by Arsene Wenger in January. Having just spent 20 odd million on Danny Wellbeck,  with Giroud back around January and a reported fee of €50million I just cant see how Arsenal make this happen. Add in the fact that PSG are not exactly blessed with fit strikers given Ibrahimovich and Lavezzi are both injured and both in their 30's and I think this is more a case of 2 +2 = 5 from a number of the English Media. The only way this could happen is if the rumours of Mezut Ozil moving to Bayern Munich are true, a big money move for Ozil would open the door for Wenger to replace the German international with Cavani. Can I see it all happening , in a word no. But we'll keep an open mind.

Rock at the Back - Hummels to Arsenal?

Both the Daily Mirror and the BBC lead off with news that Matt Hummels is on Arsene Wenger's radar and while this of course would make sense given Arsenal's anemic options at the back the question has to be asked. IF Hummels really does leave Dortmund would he pick Arsenal over a number of his other reported suitors (namely Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea) I find it hard to believe that he will be after reiterating his desire to see out his career at Borussia Dortmund I'm not sure this is anything other than lazy media reporting on what they would like to see happening rather than what might actually happen.

Double Defender swoop? Shawcross and Vlaar a new partnership at Old Trafford?

Obviously with Manchester United's defensive woes front and center the last few week the Red Devils are going to be linked with everyone and anyone that can hack down a striker and head a ball clear. However some interesting moves being mooted this week are Ron Vlaar from Aston Villa and Ryan Shawcross from Stoke City. Vlaar is the Villa captain but played under Van Gaal with the Dutch national team and is someone that Van Gaal trusts, I dont think this is beyond the realm of possibility in January. Ryan Shawcross came through the youth set up at Old Trafford and a return would surely cost Unted upward of £15million, given Shawcross' solid appearances over the last couple of years this one makes sense and with attacking wing backs and a ball playing center half in Rojo then Shawcross could be this teams Vidic a tough tackling no nonsense center half. We'll keep monitoring this one as surely Manchester United will buy some defenders in January.

Midfield Mayhem - Vidal for Mata?

Speaking of Manchester United, the Arturo Vidal rumour has not gone away and with the Chilian being disciplined by Juventus for an apparent breach of their code of conduct before the Roma game two weeks ago, it has just revived the rumour of Vidal heading for the exit. Real Madrid are rumoured to be interested in aquiring his services as well but the Red Devils have an ace in the hole here with Juan Mata being reportedly offered as part of any deal with Manchester United and Juventus. This one is one that we could see happening in the summer, Juve will want to hold onto Vidal for their European Campaign and to try to retain their Serie A crown.

Bayern to raid Dortmund, again? Reus buy out clause?

With a reported £28million buy out clause in his contract Marco Reus has suddenly become the number one target for about 10 clubs in January. Bayern Munich, Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City and Real Madrid are all said to be interested in signing the German winger who notched twenty one goals in all competitions for Borussia Dortmund last season. Considering that Reus is not far off the level of United's Angel Di Maria £28million would seem like a super deal and I'm sure we could see something of a bidding war for the young German international. Bayern Munich may offer continuity in Germany but the lure of the big money league may be too much for Reus and surely Old Trafford or the Ethiad are the most likely destination. Again a rumour that I see more likely to happen in June but we wouldnt rule out a big money move by one of the Premier League big guns in January.
