London derby in Stamford Bridge on Wednesday as runaway league leaders Chelsea host an improving Tottenham Hotspur in the game of the week. With Jose Mourhino spending most of the post press conference on Saturday defending Diego Costa's use of his elbows it was interesting to hear the Portugese give credit to Sunderland for a terrific defensive performance. The reality of watching the game was that Chelsea had possession and chances but didnt create many clear cut chances. Where Sunderland actually did have a few really good clear cut opportunities. Chelsea still lead the way and with Costa, Fabregas, Hazard and Oscar have game winners all over the pitch but they will have the occasional game like this one where things just dont go their way. Can the league leaders bounce back with a win over Tottenham on Wednesday?
Tottenaham Hotspur put in their best performance of the year on Sunday when beating Everton at White hart Lane, they take a short trip across London to take on Chelsea in what should be an entertaining encounter. With Roberto Soldado finally getting a goal in the league, his first since March, one has to wonder will the floodgates open for the Spanish striker who has been getting in the right positions without being able to finish. Tottenham have alot of quality in the midfield with lamela, lennon and Erickson all particularly impressive at the weekend. They will give Chelsea plenty to think about going forward but Pochetinno may worry what will transpire defensively playing those three together.
No doubt this one is the biggest game of the midweek fixtures, many fancy Chelsea to blow Tottenham away here but I am not so sure. I watched Tottenham against Everton and they were impressive. The question is whether defensively Tottenham can handle Costa, Willian and Oscar. I think that they might struggle to do just that but I do think that Tottenham will bother Chelsea down the other end. I am going to take both teams to score here as I think this will be an open exciting game of football. If Lennon, Erikson and Kane can continue their fine form Tottenham might even surprise Chelsea by getting a draw here.
