In need of a win Liverpool stole one from Stoke last weekend, then came from behind against Crystal Palace midweek and now look to make it three in a row when they host Sunderland in Anfield. Brendan Rodgers have been anything but impressive in their last two outings but that age old saying "a win is a win is a win" is most apt here. Those two wins have kept an injury ravaged Liverpool still in the hunt for Champions League and a win here against Sunderland could even see Liverpool make up ground on those above them as there are some tricky fixtures this weekend. Rickie Lambert will start up front and lead the line and this is the type of game that he should excel in Adam lallana is starting to show glimpses of why Liverpool paid so much for him in the summer and got on the scoresheet midweek. But Lallana plays best coming onto the ball from midfield and Lambert knows how to bring players into the game playing as a focal point. This could be a good tactic for Liverpool this weekend against Sunderland.
Sunderland have now played the top two back to back, they managed to stifle Chelsea last weekend but struggled midweek against Manchester City more than likely because of their exerts against Chelsea. A third game in a week against another top side who like to hold onto possession could be very tough for the black cats. I expect Gus Poyet to go with a 4-5-1 to try to frustrate the reds especially in Anfield but alot of that gameplan will rely on Cattermole, Rodwell and Larsson being disciplined in the midfield and Wickham and Fletcher being able to hold the ball up front.
Tough game to handicap this one as Sunderland with the exception of the loss Wednesday night have been playing really well and I cant emphasise enough how well they played against Chelsea at the weekend. Sunderland will not fear going to Liverpool and will have a gameplan for the occasion, I just have a feeling though that Liverpool and Anfield need this win and they might just come good for the home support in a tight game.
