Early morning Premier League action from the Stadium of Light in Sunderland will see the home side play host to Liverpool. The two met before Christmas and the Black Cats (Sunderland) managed to hold the Reds (Liverpool) to a scoreless draw at Anfield. Sunderland manager Gus Poyet will be looking for a similar solid defensive display led by captain John O'Shea and Wes Brown. The former Manchester United teammates are becoming one of the best central defensive partnerships in England. Sunderland though have a terrible home record this year winning only one game at home, drawing six and losing three. They will look to rectify that in the coming weeks and will see this one as a challenging but winnable home game.
Liverpool come into this game unbeaten in six. The reds have started to turn their season around but are still prone to the odd slip as seen by their 2-2 draw with Leicester. Liverpool led 2-0 at halftime in Anfield but conceded two goals in the second half to drop two more points. The announcement by the club that Stephen Gerrard will leave at the end of the season is a good thing for both player and club. It allows the fans time to say good bye in their own way and it allows the club to also move on in another way. Brendan Rodgers knows that he must get his side winning games in order to compete for that last Champions League spot and personally I think his best team does not include Gerrard. Of course the reds problems lie more in their forward line where Balotelli has failed to do anything really and the signing of Rickie Lambert looks to have been a mistake as well. Raheem Sterling is the reds most dangerous player but his finishing leaves alot to be desired, the impending return of Daniel Sturridge is great news for Liverpool and their fans.
With Liverpool still untrustworthy in my eyes I am taking Sunderand &the draw in the double/chance market at 5/6. On American books you can probably take Sunderland +.5 at the same price and it is essentially the same bet.
