Dortmund host Shalke at the Signal Iduna Park in what is probably the best fixture in German football this weekend. With Borussia seemingly returning to their much needed menacing football they host one of the more talented teams in the Bundesliga in order to see if their renewed football is really permanent or just another fad. Dortmund have won three straight games for the first time this season coming into this game and got a very valuable goal at Turin facing Juventus. It seems that Reus- return and multi-milion new contract has brought renewed hope to what was recently that last placed team in the division.
On the other hand, Shalke return to Bundesliga action after losing 2-0 at home versus one of the best European teams in Real Madrid. To be honest, I do not believe that they have any chances of rescuing their Champions League aspirations in the Bernabeu as its probably the most difficult stadium to visit in football. For this reason I do believe a Di Matteo will hope for a very strong showing this weekend in the Bundesliga in order to keep their European football aspirations safe. Nevertheless, they face a very hungry side in Borussia Dortmund and in terms of talent they are probably outweighed in many positions.
So it comes down to what version of Borussia Dortmund we see during this match-up. With Draxler and Huntelaar out with injuries Dortmund have realistic chance of getting an upset. Although in a normal situation Dortmund would be massive favourite you can never trust a side that has concede a goal nearly every game during this season. For this reason I will trust Choupo Moting to create some trouble for the Dortmund defence.
However, all in all I believe that Dortmund-s renwed hope and their dominace in midfield through Gundogan, Sahin and Reus should be too much for a undermanned Shalke squad. My recommendation for this game is Dortmund win as they are on a run and they are seemingly on thei way back to their former glory.
