United visit the Tune on Wednesday on what is probably the best fixture in the Premier League on that night. With Pardew gone it seems that Newcastle regained some form however they have been one of the more inconsistent teams this season. While they beat Tottenham at White Hart Lane, and managed to stick it to the likes of Manchester City, you never know what Newcastle is going to show up. With the sale of Ameobi to Palace they also have lost considerable power up front.

On the other hand, we have a Man Utd side that face their third game in a row without RVP. Van Persie has been one of the few constants in Van Gaal’s shaky first season. Nevertheless, the Red Devils have been able to scrape their way forward winning in very ugly fashion, but winning nonetheless. With Falcao really not hitting his stride yet, Man Utd have been just cruising through their rebuilding season sighting tightly in contention for Champions League, which initially was their main ambition. However, if they do want to remain in the race for Top 4 these are the types of away games that need to be won. During the Ferguson era, St. James’ Park was a relatively successful hunting ground for the Red Devils, however I do not know how they will fare this year.

On a more positive note, the midfield has been starting to click and for the first time since the beginning of the season Van Gaal has been able to name the same squad for more than 2 matches in a row. Although it is certain that they are not playing at their best level yet, it is impossible to compare the likes of Di Maria, Falcao, Rooney, Ander Herrera, among others to the squad that Newcastle currently possesses.

Due to the reason that I believe that Van Gaal will have prepared a very specific match plan for this fixture I think Man Utd will sneak the win. But by all means this is not a confident bet. However at odds of 2.00 and having Falcao, and Rooney on your side there isn’t much that can go wrong.
