West Ham will host Chelsea in what should be a fiesty London Derby on Wednesday night. Upton Park will be buzzing for the visit of the newly crowned league cup champions (Chelsea) and West Ham will be looking to bounce back from their own disappointing game against Crystal Palace at the weekend. Sam Allardyce's side played poorly in that game but that was only West Ham's second loss in thirteen home games. West Ham have a quality midfield and the recent signing of Nene looks to have been a decent one as he should glimpses of brilliance against Palace setting up a couple of chances and grazing the post with a beautiful bending shot after being introduced in the second half. With Sakho, Valencia up front West Ham have genuine goalscoring threats and although Alex Song struggled at the weekend the former Arsenal & Barcelona midfielder still has the quality to pick out a pass and cause problems for Chelsea.
Jose Mourhino's second season in his second tenure in English football has already brought a trophy to Stamford Bridge with Chelsea's efficient display at the weekend against a Tottenham team that outplayed them for large portions of the game. Chelsea though have the quality up front and while Diego Costa is a controversial figure the Spanish striker knows where the net is and scored the decisive second goal last weekend. With Fabregas and Hazard pulling the strings in midfield Chelsea are always going to create chances. Chelsea are leading the league and with Manchester City's loss last weekend it is hard to see anyone catching the blues unless they start dropping points in games like this one.
This is a london derby and they tend to be intense games. Chelsea though are a step above most teams in the league and it's hard to bet against Jose Mourhino's men right now. I think this one could be fiery. West Ham need a performance as Big Sam is coming under pressure. The Hammers havent won in five games but they have good results in those five with draws at Southampton and Tottenham and against Manchester United at home. I think the hammers will put in a big performance tonight and Chelsea may have a little hangover from winning the League Cup. This is a good spot to take the home dog on the handicap.
