An all italian last sixteen game which finished 1-1 in Fiorentina, can Roma get a home win that would take them into the last eight? Roma have been in a poor run of form recently drawing eleven of their last fifteen and losing at home for the first time this season at the weekend when going down 2-0 to Sampdoria. With Roma in a tailspin everyone else in the League has started to have eyes on second in the league table sitting just a point above rival Lazio and three clear of Napoli. Roma are looking over their shoulders and under intense pressure. With the Europa league winners also qualifying for the champions league both of these teams will be looking at this competition as a way in. Totti, Ljajic and Pjanic will be the key men up top but totti needs to be used sparingly as his thirty nine year old legs just dont have the same recovery powers as when he was younger. Totti may get a rest tomorrow and come in as an impact sub.
Fiorentina have been in the opposite type of form, with only one loss in fifteen games . Mohamad Salah has been a terrific signing for the Viola and has been scoring goals freely for his new team since coming in on loan from chelsea in the Quadrado deal. Playing a front three of llicic and Joaquin and the aformentioned Salah has suited Fiorentina and they have been resiliant as well as effective in recent weeks. This is a huge game for Fiorentina and they have already beaten Roma in the Coppa Italia. There will be no fear here for the Viola but the question is can they deliver under pressure?
I'm taking both teams to score here, I think we could see a 1-1 draw and this one could need penalties to seperate them. Roma should in theory be value for money here at home but their form has been so poor that it is impossible to trust the Romans even in the Stadio Olympico.
