Live from El Madrigal tonight Villareal will look to put their recent poor form behind them when they take on an Espanyol side that are also struggling with some really poor form. Villareal have one of the players of the year in their ranks in young Argentine striker Vietto who is already drawing comparisons to his esteemed international colleague Lionel Messi. Vietto has led the way for Villareal to challenge for a place in the top four and his goals have given them a realistic chance of European football this season. With a talented squad including the Dos Santos brothers, Joel Campbell and Cheryshev this is a squad that can realistically finish in the top six but they must turn around their recent poor form or they could fall further down the table.
Espanyol have been awful away from home all season but in recent weeks they have been better. With two draws and a win in their last five away games Espanyol have some reason for confidence going into this game especially as they face a Villareal team that have lost three of their last five. Espanyol though are going to struggle against the pace of Villareal. Espanyol's three strikers are capable on their day of causing problems with Calceido, Stuani and Garcia all good players but maybe not quite at the top level.
I'm going to take the draw at half time here. Espanyol have been much better of late, harder to beat and defensively sound. I think they will frustrate the home side here and while they may come undone in the end, I think they will survive until half time at least. The draw for ninty minutes is also tempting at 3/1 but I think there is more value here on the halftime draw.
