An All Madrid quarter final with Atletico Madrid hosting Real Madrid tonight in the first leg at the Vincent Cauldron Stadium. Atletico Madrid come into this game in great form unbeaten in their last five and with Atletico holding something of an Indian sign over Real Madrid being unbeaten in their last six meetings there will be no fear for the home team tonight. The atmosphere at the Vincent Cauldron should be electric, Diego Simeone will be looking to his attacking Greizmann, Mandzukich, Torres, Turan and Koke to put pressure on a fallible Real Madrid back line. Atletico have been brilliant against Real this season and have won four of the six games with the other two finishing as draws. There is also going to be a huge revenge factor here. Atletico Madrid were thirty seconds from winning the Champions League last season when Sergio Ramos equalised deep into injury time. The players and manager will not have forgotten the dejection of that evening and I am convinced that they will look to right that wrong over these two legs.
While Real Madrid have won four of their last five they have not been all that impressive. Struggling to achieve any sort of cohesion and attacking intent they did explode for a nine one win two weeks ago but that was more a freak result than brilliant play. Obviously a team with Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Benzema are going to be very dangerous going forward but Real have been sheppered well by Atletico's defence. Carlo Ancelotti has had a rough time in recent weeks and the loss to Barcelona has left Real with an uphill battle for the league title. Ancelotti will probably be out of a job at the end of the season if he doesnt produce a league or Champions League title.
I have to take Atletico here, the home side have dominated the derby this season and Simeone just seems to know how to neutralise the effectiveness of Ronaldo. With the Argentine consistantly getting his tactics right in the big games I am will to bank on him getting the win here. In fact I am probably going to take Atletico -1 on the handicap as well as I think that Atletico will be really really up for this game.
