Ecuador and Japan meet Tuesday afternoon in their third matchup of the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Ecuador is flat out getting beat up in this tournament, as it’s been outscored 16-1. Ecuador is coming off a 10-1 loss to Switzerland, a match in which it controlled the ball just 35 percent and allowed 13 shots on goal. In just two matches, Ecuador has allowed 27 shots on goal and 49 shots overall. Needless to say, it’s been very ugly for fans of Ecuador in this World Cup. Offensively, Ecuador has four shots on goal and hasn’t had many opportunities to find the net at all. Angie Ponce is the player to score Ecuador's first ever Women’s World Cup goal, but it’s hard to find any positives beyond that point. We knew Ecuador was going to struggle in this tournament, as it's not great offensively and is still young. However, I don’t think anyone called it being this bad.

2015 FIFA Women's World Cup: Ecuador vs. Japan Pick, Odds, Prediction - 6/16/15

Japan is coming off a 2-1 victory over Cameroon and is guaranteed to advance to the next round. Japan controlled the ball 57 percent of the match and allowed just three of 20 shots to be on target. Japan’s defense has been as good as advertised, as it switches sides well and loads the box, making it hard to get good looks. Japan has allowed just six shots on goal out of 33 attempts overall. Offensively, Japan has scored three times on just five shots on target. Aya Sameshima and Yuika Sugasawa found the net in Japan’s victory over Cameroon. Needless to say, Japan has picked right where it left off after winning the World Cup in 2011. Japan is a team that doesn’t beat itself and plays with great balance and a high soccer IQ.

Based on what these two squads have done heading into this match, I think everyone knows what’s coming. While Japan isn’t as explosive offensively as other teams Ecuador has faced, I’m not sure it matters. This is sure to get ugly.

While Ecuador is sure to get blasted once again, Japan doesn't have nearly as much firepower as Switzerland. I would stay away from this match but if forced to pick, I'd take the insane amount of free goals.
