The Colorado Rapids and FC Dallas meet Friday night at the Dick's Sporting Goods Park.
The Colorado Rapids could use a win here, as they enter this match with a 2-4-8 record. The Rapids are the worst offensive team in the MLS, scoring 11 goals in 14 games and producing 59 shots on goal. Gabriel Torres leads the Rapids with four goals, Dillon Powers has five assists and Vicente Sanchez has seven shots on goal. Defensively, the Rapids have allowed just 12 goals this season, as Clint Irwin has been one of the top goalies this season with 43 saves overall. Despite a lack of wins, the Rapids continue to hang around with a solid defense that has forced a ton of draws this season. A win would do wonders for the Rapids, a team that’s coming off a draw against Real Salt Lake last Sunday. Marlon Hairston is questionable with a hamstring injury.

FC Dallas looks to improve its playoff position and enters this match with a 6-5-4 record. Offensively, FC Dallas has had a lot more success, as it’s racked up 18 goals and 55 shots on target in 15 games. Blas Perez leads FC Dallas with five goals, Fabian Castillo has five assists and Mauro Diaz has 20 shots. Defensively, FC Dallas could certainly improve, as it’s allowed 22 goals overall and three or more goals four times this season. FC Dallas just can’t find consistency on the defensive end, as Dan Kennedy and Chris Seitz have both had their struggles this season. Still, FC Dallas has playmakers on the offensive end and has scored at least one goal in nine of its 15 games this season. FC Dallas could use a win after getting beat up, 3-0 against Seattle last Saturday.
FC Dallas has won three of the last five meetings against the Colorado Rapids, and their most recent meeting was a draw. Needless to say, the Colorado Rapids have had their way with FC Dallas in recent meetings (although none this season), and that’s not a surprise given the advantage offensively.
Given what the Rapids have down to Dallas this season and the fact they’re at home, I look for Colorado to get a rare outright victory in this match.
