The New York Red Bulls and New York City FC meet Sunday afternoon at Yankee Stadium.
The New York Red Bulls could use a win after losing four of their last six matches. The New York Red Bulls are a solid offensive team that’s been shutout just twice in 15 matches and scored five goals in their last three matches. Bradley Wright-Phillips leads New York with five goals, Felipe Martins has three assists and Sacha Kljestan has 27 shot attempts. Defensively, the New York Red Bulls have allowed 19 goals and one or less goals in nine of its matches. Luis Robles has come away with 30 saves and allowed six goals in his last three starts. The New York Red Bulls haven’t won their last five road matches, which includes three losses and two draws. Lloyd Sam is questionable with a groin injury.
USA TODAY Sports
New York City FC looks to remain hot and build on its three-match winning streak. New York City FC has scored 17 goals in 16 matches and has been shutout five times. David Villa leads New York City FC with six goals, Kwadwo Poku has three assists and Patrick Mullins has 21 shot attempts. Defensively New York City FC has allowed 19 goals overall and two goals in its last three matches overall. Josh Saunders has come away with 53 saves and has allowed three goals in his last four starts. New York City FC have won just one of their last seven home games, which includes three losses.
This will be the second meeting between these teams this season, as New York City FC won, 2-1.
And given the way the New York Red Bulls have played on the road, I find it hard to back them here. This is a great chance for New York City FC to take three points and get back in the East race.
