Costa Rica start their Gold Cup campaign with a tricky assignment against a battle hardened Jamaica who are coming into this tournament after playing well in the Copa America, where they lost three tight games 1-0. Jamaica played tough in the tournament and defended well, they lost to Uruguay and Argentina by solitary goals two of the best teams in world football and they will fancy their chances of causing an upset in the Gold Cup. Jamaica though have problems putting the ball in the net and they will face a quality defence on Wednesday as Costa Rica proved last year at the World Cup to be a well organised side with quality throughout. Mattocks and Barnes simply must prove that their partnership can finish the chances created. Austin will captain the side and the Leeds United player will be looking to get the Reggae boyz into the knockout stages here in a Group they could qualify from.
Costa Rica captain Bryan Ruiz just signed with Sporting Club in Portugal and the former Fulham playmaker will be the key man for Costa Rica in this tournament, during last summers World Cup Ruiz was terrific and the Costa Rica team will have some expectations on their shoulders here. Paulo Wanchope as the teams new manager will be hoping to build on last summers success. Joel Campbell of Arsenal had a terrific tournament last year but again failed to make an impact at club level. Campbell is a quality striker with bundles of pace he will be key for Costa Rica's chances of winning the tournament. This is a good team and Costa Rica look like a good outside bet to win it all. Taking them at 4/5 to get the win here seems like a really good bet to me.
I'm taking Costa Rica to get the job done here. Jamaica have problems finding the net and that wont get any easier given Costa Ricas impressive defence. At 4/5 this should be a good bet to start the tournament with.
