Co-Host nation Canada kick off their Gold Cup tournament against El Salvador in California. Canada come into this game having won four games in a row and will look to star man Ricketts to fire them to victory here. Former Norwich striker Simeone Jackson will be using this tournment as an opportunity to get a permanent deal as he is currently unattached. Canada are a tough team to read as on paper they simply dont have the quality of player to compete at this tournament but with recent friendlies against quality opposition Canada have played well and proven to be very tough to beat, that includes a 1-0 loss to Colombia in a game that Canada easily could have come away with a draw. Can Canada start the tournament with a win against a defensively sound El Salvador team?
El Salvador played Copa America Champions Chile in June and just barely lost 1-0, this is a tough tackling defensively minded team that will play hard for the entire 90 minutes. El Salvador will not give up much defensively and you can be assured of 100% commitement throughout. Bonilla and Bourgos will be the key men up front for El Salvador who will be looking to upset the book when they take on Canada on Wednesday night. Andre Flores is probably El Salvador's best player and the New York Cosmos midfielder will be vital in protecting the back four and in providing through balls for the attackers.
This one looks like it is going to be a dog fight from start to finish , I dont see many goals in either side and I am going to take the unders in a game that I think could end up scoreless. Canada may just have enough to nick a win here but either way I think this one is going to be a low scoring affair and the unders should be comfortable for us.
