With the second semi final taking place on WEdnesday night we will see Mexico the pre tournament favourites take on surprise package Panama. Paname have yet to win a game in the tournament but find themselves in the semi final, four one all draws and a win on penalties has brought Panama to the cusp of the Gold Cup final, the question is now can they pull off a massive shock against Mexico? Star man Tejada has netted two goals in the four games and will be the key man up front for Panama, his partnership with Perez has been good and both have looked dangerous throughtout the competition. Panama are a team that defends first and uses a counter attacking system. Paname will need to be careful here against a potent Mexico side who's attacking has been erratic.
Mexico have had four very different game, struggling against Guatemala and Costa Rica and scoring ten goals in the other two games against Cuba and Trinidad. Carlos Vela and Peralta have been brilliant and awful at times but they have the quality to beat any team on their day. Vela in particular has exceptional finishing touches but he has found himself in a playmaker role more often than not dropping deeper and playing behind the lone striker Peralta. The two Dos Santos brothers have also struggled to impose themselves at times with Gio a substitute in most of the games. Coach Herrerra does have an ability to lift his players for the big occasion though and I expect Mexico to be flying in this game.
While Panama have been excellent the entire tournament I cant help but feel that Mexico are just getting going and i think the individual quality that the Mexicans possess will be the difference here on the day. We're also getting Mexico at a great price 4/5, I know this is because of their occasional struggles but I think that Mexico should be about 4/9 so I will take the 4/5 and take Mexico as one of the bets of the week here.
