The first Ligue 1 game of the season will take place on Friday night in Lille as the home team host the Champions PSG. PSG have had a good pre season and just completed the £44million signing of Angel Di Maria from Manchester United. I doubt if Di Maria will play any part on Friday night having just joined the side but PSG have a quality squad even without the brilliant Argentina winger. Lavezzi, Cavani, Ibrahimovich and Pastore will provide the talent up front and PSG will be looking to build on a great season last year. Laurent Blanc's side got off to a poor start last season but it didnt matter in the end as their strength in depth came good at the business end of the season and PSG eased away from their rivals at the end of the year.
Lille have a great home record but their head to head against PSG is not good having lost three of their last four against the Parisians including a 6-1 thumping in the Parc Des Princes at the end of the season last year. Lille have lost some of their squad from last year with Kjaer joining Fenerbahce and Origi finally going to Liverpool. Lille will be a solid side though and I am sure the new season will give them plenty of reason to be hopeful of a good season ahead. Also the players who were playing last season in that 6-1 thumping will be eager to get some revenge.
Generally speaking the Champions always have a big target on their back and this will be no different for PSG this year but to be honest even giving Lille's terrific home record they have struggled to contain PSG and the Parisians have been very impressive in their pre season games against the top team across Europe. At 7/10 value is a little tight but I still think getting PSG at this price is worth taking. We had a terrific run of Friday night picks on the BT games last season so hopefully we kick off the season proper with another winner here.
