One of the games of the weekend in the Barclays Premier League will take place on Saturday morning as Southampton host Everton at Saint Mary's in what should be a really entertaining game of football played between two sides who are great to watch. Southampton and Everton both drew their opening weekend fixtures 2-2 in pulsating games but Southampton played quite well away from home against a rejuvenated Newcastle United side while Everton struggled at home against newly promoted Watford. There will always be arguments about which is the better result but at the end of the day they both count for the same thing a point won or two points dropped depending on how you want to look at it. Southampton have added some quality to their squad but have lost some big players with Schneiderlein being missed most at the moment. Tadic, Long, Pelle and the returning Rodriguez will be key for Ronald Koeman's side if they are to agains compete at the top end of the table and all four were excellent last weekend. Rodriguez is still only returning from a long injury lay off but was sharp in the hour he was on the field. Southampton's front four will fancy their chances against an Everton defence that was terrible last weekend.
Everton have some significant problems defensivley they just havent looked solid in a long long time. While Roberto martinez side definitely play attractive football they have struggled to do the simple things right at times and those struggles have left Everton with too much to do in games they should be winning. If Everton are to go back to challenging for the top four they must win nearly all of their home games but definitely the home games against newly promoted sides like Watford. This is a serious side on paper and players like lukaku, Barkley, Coleman and McCarthy have all attracted attention from sides across Europe but Everton being a big club themselves have been able to hold onto these guys as they believe Martinez is goign to turn the Toffee's into a top team in the Premier League.
This one looks to be a great bet for a draw, I do like Southampton quite a lot but I think Everton showed some good battling qualities last weekend that were lacking last season. While Everton might struggle to beat Southampton I think the same can be said of the home team here, Everton will be tough to beat as they have so attacking talent that they can and will score goals. Both teams to score is probably a good shout as well but the value on the draw here is too good for me to pass up.
