Action from El Madrigal on Friday night as a new look Villareal will play host to Espanyol, Roberto Soldado made his debut for Villareal last weekend after two tumultous years at Tottenham and the former Valencia striker netted on his first appearance for the club. Soldado had a terrible time in England but immediately looked comfortable back in La Liga and this could turn out to be a wonderful signing for the yellow submarines. With Leo Baptistao partnering with Soldado Villareal look to have a decent partnership in the making. Dos Santos can provide solidity in midfield and Pina, Bruno and Leiva will all provide creativity from midfield, Villareal had a busy summer and losing Vietto to Athletico was a major loss for the team but if Soldado can continue his good start then the loss may not be felt as much as first envisaged.
Espanyol lost a number of key players during the summer with Casillo and Stuani both leaving for Real Madrid and Middlesbrough respectively. Espanyol have brough in Moreno from Villareal and he will get his chance against his former side on Friday night with the youngster sure to be motivated to prove his worth to his new employers and make a point to his former team. Caicedo the former Manchester City striker though is probably the key figure for Espanyol and his ability is undoubted but he is a little bit unpredictable and hence unreliable.
This is a tough game for Espanyol, Villareal for me look the better team and I think they can get a win here to get their season off to a strong start. Soldado should provide the quality up front and El Madrigal always provides a hostile atmosphere for the opposition, I expect a home win on Friday night and I will be taking Villareal to get it done.
