Iceland look to wrap up qualification for the Euro's when they take on Kazakhstan on Sunday night a win for the home team will put Iceland in their first ever major tournament and a remarkable achievement considering the Group that they were drawn in with World Cup semi finalist the Netherlands, Czech Republic and Turkey. Iceland have a solid team with a number of individual stars especially Swansea midfielder Sigurddson who has been terrific for Iceland and his club over the last 18 months. Along with experienced players like Gudjohnson this is an Iceland team with ambitions to be the first Icelandic team to ever make a major tournament. A win on Sunday night and they will have accomplished their goal.
Kazakhstan are a team thats improving and they gave a good account of themselves on Friday night as they held the Czech Republic for a long time and even led the game for the guts of an hour. Logvinenko has netted three goals in these qualifiers and looks to be the best player on Kazakhstan's squad. This is a team that is solid defensively and will take a bit of breaking down. Iceland beat Kazakhstan in the return fixture 3-0 and will look for a similar scoreline tonight to guarantee themselves a place in the European Championships.
I cant take anything but an Iceland win here and I am going to take the home team -1 on the handicap as I think tonight is the night that Iceland qualifies for their first ever major tournament and I think they will want to make sure there is no doubts as I expect them to win by two or three tonight. This should be a historic night for Iceland and one that the fans will enjoy.
