The Merseyside Derby comes to us from Goodison Park with Everton hosting Liverpool and just a point seperating the two teams in the league tabe. Roberto Martinez side come into this game off the back of an unbelievable come back against West brom where they trailed 2-0 but managed to pull out a 3-2 victory. James Mccarthy, Lukaku and Kone were key figures in the comeback and the Everton attack have had to be good as injuries have left the team extremely stretched at the back. John Stones, Seamus Coleman and Leighton Baines could all miss out through injury today and the strength of the squad depth is really going to be tested if that does happen. The Toffees though for me look like a team playing with alot of confidence and are unbeaten in their last six.
Liverpool also managed a 3-2 victory last weekend when beating Aston Villa last weekend. The return of Daniel Sturridge is key for the reds and his ability to stay fit will have a big impact on whether Liverpool can challenge for the top four. An injury to Christian Benteke and Firminho has left brendan rodgers short handed up front but Danny Ings and Sturridge look like a capable partnership. James Milner has been excellent since his summer move from Manchester City and Liverpool will be hoping he can continue his strong form in this his first Merseyside Derby.
Not to overthink this one is important. While I appreciate both sides could lay claim for favouritism with Liverpool coming good recently and Everton struggling defensively I am going to take the overs. Sometimes these derbies turn out to be drab affairs but I dont see it here. I think there is too much attacking talent on display. If I was to take a winner though I would probably be looking at Liverpool. The injuries to Everton's back four will mean they need to be very careful against the pace of Sturridge.
