New Sunderland manager Sam Allardyce starts his time with the Black Cats with a tough trip to the midlands to take on a Tony Pulis managed West Brom. West Brom though have struggled of late and come into this game having lost their last three in all competitions. The Baggies had a complete collapse against Everton, leading by two goals and looking comfortable the team conceded three in the last thirty minutes and looked shell shocked by the end of it. Tony Pulis will be looking for more from star signing Rondon as the former Zenit striker has struggled to settle and with Berahino back and playing well I think that their partnership could well be fruitful given time. Former Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher is a key figure for West Brom and alongside Yacob and Morrison they must protect the back four better. West Brom do look like a decent team at times though and their struggles in recent weeks were against good teams with Everton and Crystal Palace in great form.
Sunderland have replaced their manager as Dick Advocaat left due to becoming disillusioned with the squad that was not strengthened during the summer and really Advocaat cant be blamed for his stance. After leading the black cats to a miraculous survival last season he intended to retire only for the club to convince him to change his mind, yet then they failed to invest in the team and now are exactly where they were in the summer lacking a manager and lacking squad strenght. Sam Allardyce after his departure from West Ham is looking for a club to prove his worth and in Sunderland he is walkign into a very tough situation. There is talent within this squad though with Fletcher, Defoe and Borini up front and Lens, MVila ,Larrson, Rodwell and Cattermole in the midfield. There are gaping holes in squad depth but at the same time I think Allardyce has a team here that he can mould to his liking. Investment will be needed in January no doubt but right now I think Allardyce can get some results.
This is going to be a huge game for both teams. West Brom will be looking to jump on the uncertainty still surrounding Sunderland and Sunderland will be looking to take advantage of a new start under Allardyce. I think though we get a good game here. Sam Allardyce is a decent mid table team manager and Sunderland could be a good fit for him but I dont know if he has had enough time to make any difference in the performances of Sunderland. This should be a good game though and I am going to take both teams to score. I think West Brom are worthy favourites especially at home in the Hawthorns but I think we get better odds on both teams to score.
