Action from the League Cup on Wednesday night will come from Old Trafford as Manchester United play host to high flying Championship side Middlesbrough. United come into this game off the back of one of their worst offensive displays against rivals Manchester City. For the entire game on Sunday United dominated possession but didnt create alot and while they will expect to get more joy on Wednesday against a second tier defence the worry signs are appearing at Old Trafford as questions arise about Wayne Rooney's ability to lead the line in the biggest games. Rooney probably gets a rest for the league cup tie but there is a chance that Anthony Martial is pushing for inclusion as the man to lead the line and Rooney may be relegated to the bench. Louis Van Gaal will though take the opportunity to give game time to squad players in this the fourth most important cup for United. Expect Young, Perrira , WIlson and Romero to all get some game time along with some first team regulars.

Middlebrough come into this game off the back of an important away win at Wolves that keeps them fourth in the league table, Boro were unlucky to lose out on promotion to the Premier League last season when losing in the Playoff final to norwich. This is a good side full of quality and Premier League standard players. Leadbitter, Downing, Stuani and Fabbrini would make a case for starting in alot of mid to lower table Premier League teams and Boro will look at this game as a once off shot at the big boys. There is no doubting that Boro will be up for this game massively and I think they take this game to United and will go at them from the very start.

Manchester United's current strength in depth is a s good as it has been in years and with Depay, Young and Wilson all not getting regular first team football they will get the chance to impress here. I think that Manchester United will win this one but I think it will be a good game. I am going to take United to win and both teams to score as I think Middlesbrough cause some problems for United defensively but in the end United's superior quality up front should get the job done.
