With the Group still wide open Louis Van Gaal will be hoping his Manchester United side can avenge their opening round loss to PSV. On that night United lost Luke Shaw to a horror broken leg and although they took the lead through former PSV winger Memphis the team were obviously still not right and ended up succumbing to the two chances that PSV took. Manchester United though have improved dramatically since then and have been very impressive, especially at home. At the weekend they showed that resiliance that Manchester United are known for when they hit a late winner in injury time against Watford. Manchester United have a number of leaders among their squad but possibly none as experienced as the match winner on Saturday, Schweinesteiger has settled well and what he brings to the table is a know how and an ability to continue to keep pressing till the final whistle. With Rooney, Depay, Martial and Mata there is an abundance of attackign talent but you wont win games without the strength and leadership in midfield. Schweinsteiger and Schneiderlein both bring that and I think they will be key to Wedensday night's game.
PSV manager Philip Cocu will be looking for a similar perfromance on Wedensday to the tactical game they played in the first leg in Eindhoven. PSV sat back invited United on to them and then attacked them on the counter, they will definitely employ a similar tactic on Wednesday. PSV have a good target man and finisher in Luk De Jong, the player moved to Newcastle a couple of years back but injuries meant he never really settled and he ended up back at PSV where he has eleven goals in twelve games this year. With a solid squad PSV will not come to Old Trafford and roll over but at the same time this is a big task against a very good team who are in great form.
I've said already that there is not alot of value in these games this week with the favourites too short and the underdogs also too short. I think that United are deserved favourites here but PSV need to be respected, it's a tough game to call but I think it will be decided by one goal and that might just be from a set piece with Rooney likely to miss out through illness I'm going to go for former PSV winger Memphis to be the difference maker here. Take Memphis Depay to score first on Wedensday night for a min bet.
