After a humiliating 4-0 loss to Barcelona in El Classico Real Madrid now face a tough trip to Shakhtar Donetsk where many teams have struggled and they face a Shakhtar team that have come into form at the right time. Shakhtar need to win and hope that PSG fail to do so in Malmo. Real Madrid though need to steady the ship and there is a chance that if the Galacticos get beaten on Wednesday that Rafa Benitez will no longer be the Real Madrid manager on Thursday morning. Of course as I write this there is rumours that the Real Madrid boss is about to be let go, rifts between certain players and the manager have emerged and club President Florentino Perez has called a press conference on Monday at 7.30pm (GMT) which could see the end of Benitez tenure as Real Madrid boss. But until such time as it is confirmed there is no point in speculating. One thing for sure is that Real Madrid need Ronaldo, Bale and Rodriguez to get focused on this game.
Shakhtar have some quality attackers and will definitely not fear Real Madrid as they have got their form together since they were hammered in the first game of the group inMadrid. There will be an element of revenge here as well as Shakhtar struggled in the opening games of the group and have left themselves in too big a hole to really qualify. I do think this will be a big performance by Shakhtar though with Teixera, Fred and Bernard capable of causing lots of problems for Real's brittle back four. Barcelona and Sevilla showed how to hit Real on the counter attack and Shakhtar may not have all of the quality of the aformentioned but they do have power , pace and Teixera and I think they will have a right go at Real Madrid here.
Things are not well within the Galacticos and rather than back a team in dissarray I'm going to take the home under dog here. Taking Shakhtar +1 for a max bet but also going to spread a little on the Ukranian side on the moneyline. This game could well spell the end for Rafa Benitez time in charge of Real Madrid.
