On Saturday Southampton got the win when they hammered Arsenal 4-0 in st Mary's, West Ham on the other hand were held to their fifth draw in a row. Slaven Bilic's West Ham are a tough nut to crack as proven by their strong form away from home where they have wins at Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal and a draw at Old Trafford. Obviously West Ham would love to turn some of those draws into wins but the hammers have had some major injury problems and that has definitely had an effect on their attack. Valencia and Carroll are back now not 100% but fit enough to start, Payet is due back soon and Sakho could be ok this weekend. West Ham lost their first two home games but are unbeaten in their last six at home, unfortunately for hammers fans only two of those six games have been wins.
Southampton had lost five of their previous six before Saturday's win over Arsenal. An injury to Pelle looked to have robbed the Saints of their best attacker before the game but Ronald Koeman's side were terrific with Mane and Long playing a more conventional 4-4-2 and southampton will surely stick to what worked so well when they travel to London for this game.I understand that Southampton did put in a good perfromance on Saturday but making them heavy favourites away from home seems a strange move for me.
I know that West Ham's current run of draws surely cant continue but given they have five in a row now and the draw is still 12/5 I think there has to be value there. West Ham have a good defence and I think that while Southampton had a good performance on Saturday I wouldnt be convinced that they have suddenly become a dependable team again. I am going to take the draw here, I do think that West Ham are looking the value bet at home but with a team that is struggling to score goals I just am not convinced they can score enough to beat Southampton here.
