Interesingy Manchester City face Liverpool on WEdnesday night after the two clubs just went head to head in the League Cup final on Sunday. Manchester City cam through that match up with the victory on penalties but to be truthful City were the better team over the 90 minutes and it was largely a rearguard action for Liverpool through the 120 minutes. Of course there were chances for both teams but Manchester city had by far the clearer chances with Sterling, Aguero and Navas all guilty of missing excellent chances. Manuel Pelligrini's decision to play Willy Caballero in goal was justifed when the reserve keeper saved three penalty kicks in the shoot out to inspire Manchester City to victory. Manchester City are looking to now push on in their league push and they simply must win every game from here till the end of the season to have any chance of winning the league title with Tottenham , Arsenal and Leicester all ahead of them.
Liverpool could play spoiler to Manchester City's title push but really Jurgen Klopp's side will have to pick themselves up from the Cup loss and while revenge may be in their minds the team could be a little deflated going into this game. Daniel Sturride, Philip Coutinho and Firminho will be the main attacking threat for Liverpool but they face a rejuvenated Man City defence who are completely different when Vincent Kompany plays and he is now back to full fitness. Anfield will be a cauldron on Wednesday night and manchester city are sure to get a "warm" welcome but the Liverpool fans are among the best in the league when it comes to appreciating the opposition(as long as you are not Everton or Manchester United) and I think that this game will be played in a phenomenal atmosphere. There were a couple of little niggles in the cup final that could carry over into this game and I will be looking at that in particular.
I think that this is one where maybe the Odds makers are underestimating Manchester City. Yes City have not been great away from home but they have won big games recently away from home , non bigger than the win over Dynamo Kiev in the Champions League. I am going to take Manchester City here to pull on over on Liverpool in Anfield. At 9/5 the price looks too big although honestly the draw is appealing too.
