The Houston Dynamo and New England Revolution open their season Sunday at the BBVA Compass Stadium.
The Houston Dynamo hope to rebound after back-to-back losing seasons and losing three of their last six matches. Will Bruin returns after leading Houston with 11 goals, Boniek García has five assists and Giles Barnes had 75 shots. Defensively, Tyler Deric returns at goalkeeper after leading Houston with seven shutouts and 89 saves. The Houston Dynamo have to be better defensively if they hope to make the playoffs, as they gave up 49 goals last season. The Houston Dynamo have won three of their last five regular season home games.

The New England Revolution look for their fourth straight playoff appearance after winning 31 games the last two years. The New England Revolution has an experienced team once again to rely on this season. Charlie Davies returns after leading New England with 10 goals, Lee Nguyen had 10 assists and Juan Agudelo had 54 shots. New England is an offensive team that produced 48 goals in 34 games last season. Defensively, Bobby Shuttleworth returns at goalkeeper after leading the Revolution with eight shutouts and 78 saves. The New England Revolution have won three of their last five regular season road games.
New England has beaten Houston in each of the last three meetings, two of which were shutouts. The last time the Dynamo beat the Revolution was in May of 2014. Three of the last four meetings between these two teams has produced a shutout.
As of right now, the Revolution are the better and more polished team, and they’ve had the Dynamo’s number over the years. Hard to bet against New England until Houston snaps the streak.
