The New York Red Bulls and Toronto FC open the season Sunday afternoon at the Red Bull Arena.
The New York Red Bulls look to build on a very impressive season in which they won the Supporters' Shield. The next step for this experienced and talented Bulls team would be to bring an MLS Cup back to New Jersey for the first time. Bradley Wright-Phillips returns after leading New York with 17 goals, Sacha Kljestan had 14 assists and Felipe had 56 shots on goal. Luis Robles will remain the starting goalkeeper for the Bulls, as he pitched nine shutouts last season and came away with 86 saves. The New York Red Bulls have won three straight regular season home games.

The Toronto FC look to build on last season that resulted in their first playoff berth in franchise history. Toronto FC is a team that’s certainly worth keeping a close eye on this season. Sebastian Giovinco returns after leading Toronto with 22 goals, Jonathan Osorio had seven assists and Jozy Altidore had 18 shots on goal. As for defense, Toronto FC will be led by a bunch of inexperienced goalkeepers including Alex Bono, Clint Irwin and Quillan Roberts. The Toronto FC have lost five straight regular season road games.
The New York Red Bulls have beaten Toronto FC in two of the last three meetings, while Toronto has won the last meeting. The last four meetings between these two teams has produced at least three goals.
New York was 12-3-2 last season on its home field and will be eager to get off to a fast start with the way things ended. Add Toronto’s struggles on the road, and I like the home team to get the job done here.
