On Thursday a star studded Fenerbahce will take on a notoriously difficult to beat Braga in what should be another really tight Europa League fixture. Braga are unbeaten in their last fifteen games in all competitions and the games are coming thick and fast for the Portugese side who are in one cup final already and in the semi final of the other domestic cup in portugal not to mention the last sixteen in the Europa League here. Braga are one of the form teams in Portugal and had an impressive 3-1 win over Porto at the weekend as good practice for this tough game on Thursday. Braga have a hard working team with quality sprinkled throughout. Koka and Stojiljkovic will be the biggest threat up front with Rui Fonte also providing some support from the midfield. Braga have quality in that midfield with Silva, Carlos and Mauro they are also a throwback to a different time in terms of their set up as they like to play a 4-4-2 which has all but been abandoned by the majority of clubs throughout Europe at this stage. Braga are tough to break down through the center and will definitely not be overawed on Thursday.
Fenerbahce spent some big money this summer and brought in alot of stars with Manchester United pair Nani and Robin Van Persie, joining Diego, Kjaer, Markovic and Raul Meireles on the Turkish side. Fenerbahce have had a successful season in the Super Ligue and are two points clear at the top at the moment and will be looking to consolidate that position and qualify for the Champions League next season. Fenerbahce is definitely a work in progress but they have hit their good form at the right time of the season and they will be looking at the Europa League as some silverware that they can add to the project. Robing Van Persie, Nani and Fernandao have been the biggest goal scoring threats this season and I think that they will look to take the game to Braga but this is not going to be an easy game for the home side.
I've found myself thinking this alot but these teams are very well matched. I like what Braga have been doing recently, not losing games and I think they can continue it here. Yes Fenerbahce are going to be a step up on some of the teams they have face but Braga have experience and quality as well they wont be overawed by the occasion having reached a Europa League cup final in 2011 and I think they can get a positive result here.
