Massive game for Arsene Wenger and Arsenal as they travel to Barcelona trying to overcome a 2-0 deficit from the first leg. Having gone out of the FA Cup at the weekend Arsenal's entire season is hanging by a thread. Eight points behind Premier League leaders Leicester City the Gunners must now win all of their nine remaining games and hope for an implosion by Leicester and Tottenham. This would be a miracle game though if Arsenal were to go to the Nou Camp and beat Barcelona by two goals to go through to the quarter final. Arsenal played well in the first leg for long periods but couldnt take their chances when they came and the Gunners were made to suffer the consequences as Messi punished them in style scoring twice in the second half to leave Arsenal with a mountain to climb. Arsenal have players that can hurt Barcelona though with Sanchez, Ozil, Ramsey and Wellbeck all capable on their day of causing problems. Sanchez and Ozil are world class and if on form they could present a real threat to Barcelona but they will need the pace of both Walcott and Wellbeck to get in behind Barcelona's defence.
With a two goal advantage Barcelona could come into this game with some complacency. Luis Suarez was at the end of several chances in the first leg but couldnt find the net and while Messi spared his blushes the former Liverpool front man will be keen to take a chance here and wipe out any doubt. Barcelona have a phenomenal team and with Neymar, Suarez and Messi they have the best front three in world football at the moment. It's difficult to see how anyone is going to stop them from scoring and to be fair they are favourites for all the big competitions this season. Barca are well clear in La Liga and have won their four games since beating Arsenal by an aggregate score of seventeen to two. At home in the Nou Camp Barcelona have won twenty three of their last twenty five and havent lost in the Nou Camp in over a year (last loss to Malaga in Feb 15). There is absolutely nothing that points to anything other than a comfortable Barcelona progress.
Barcelona should win this game comfortably, they are the better team , they are at home and they already have an edge with a 2-0 lead. Could that edge maybe give Arsenal some hope of complacency? Possibly but Barcelona havent shown much complacency over the last two years while Enrique has been in charge. There is little value though on the money line and the handicaps look just about right. I'm going to instead take Arsenal +1 on the handicap in the first half, I am playing this on the basis that Arsene Wenger has his team playing at full tilt here. A bad loss in this game could be the end of Wenger's time in charge of Arsenal. I think the players owe him a good performance but what we get isnt always what we deserve, especially in football.
