Without a doubt the game of the weekend in the Premier League will see Manchester United travel across the city to the Ethiad Arena to take on Manchester City. Both teams were in action midweek in Europe but United exited the Europa League to Liverpool and City coasted through a second leg with Dynamo Kiev. Manchester United played really well on Thursday but got sucker punched with a goal just before half time that took the wind out of their sails and they never really recovered. Louis Van Gaal's side were applauded off the Old Trafford pitch though as the home fans recognized the effort put in by each and everyone of the Manchester United players. Juan Mata, Martial , Rashford , Lindgaard and Depay will take the game to Manchester City. United simply need to win every game from here till the end of the season to give themselves a chance of fourth place and the Champions League for next season. United need the Champions League as currently this as a club in the midst of a rebuilding phase and the Champions League is an attraction for the biggest players. If United are to try to sign the biggest stars in the world they need the Champions LEague and this game will eb a six pointer for the Red Devils.
While on the other side of Manchester we have a Manchester City team that have made it to the quarter finals of the Champions League for the first time, the Citizens are flying high in Europe and they got a decent draw against PSG having avoided Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich. While it's difficult to see how Manchester City could win the Champions League it is not impossible. The loss of Vincent Kompany to injury for a month is a hammer blow for Manchester City though as Kompany was a rock in the center of the defence and when he plays Manchester City are simply much better. In the absence of Kompany , Toure and Aguero will have to lead by example. Offensively this is a strong side. Manchester City have one of the best attacks in England if not the world and they will push United tomorrow, testing a rearguard that has also been soft for much of this season.
These two re well matched, the game being in City gives the blues and advantage but not by much. Both teams played in Europe this week and there could be some heavy legs here. I think that this game means more to Manchester United and like a cornered rat United could be very dangerous on the counter attack on Sunday. I am going to go with the away team here on the handicap as I think that Manchester United have been good on the road in the big games this season with the exception of their loss at Arsenal. United are a big price here outright and while I will probably have a small cut at United to win it straight up I think they will definitely cover this handicap.
