New York City FC and Vancouver Whitecaps meet Saturday afternoon at Yankee Stadium.
New York City FC could use a strong home victory after a rough 1-3-4 record. New York City FC needs to find more consistency on the defensive end, as it’s allowed 13 goals in eight matches overall and six goals in its last three matches. New York City FC has five players with double-digit shot attempts but has to be better at getting stops in order to get wins. David Villa leads New York City with four goals, Khiry Shelton has two assists and Steven Mendoza has 15 shots. Defensively, Josh Saunders has come away with 18 saves on 33 shots faced. New York City FC have earned points in six of their last eight regular season home games.

The Vancouver Whitecaps look to earn more points after a solid 3-4-2 start to the season. The Whitecaps have allowed just two goals in their last three matches and 12 goals in their nines matches this season overall. If the Vancouver Whitecaps can just find some momentum on the offensive end where they have just one player with double-digit shots on goal, they can be a sneaky team in the Western Conference this season. Pedro Morales leads Vancouver with four goals, Cristian Techera has two assists and Octavio Rivero has 18 shots. Defensively, David Ousted has come away with 36 saves on 50 shots faced. The Vancouver Whitecaps have lost six of their last eight regular season road games.
New York City won the only match between these two, which was 2-1 back in September of last year at the BC Place.
New York City FC is kind of in must-win mode, as it has to take advantage of home matches if it wants to make a statement in its second season. Vancouver isn’t great on the road at all and struggles to find the back of the net.
I like the home team to get a much needed victory.
