Juventus Sign Dani Alves
Brazilian full back, Dani Alves, has taken a leap of faith leaving the champions of Spain, FC Barcelona, in order to join Italian side Juventus. Alves, who turned 33 this year, said that it was too easy at the Camp Nou and he felt he had to leave his comfort zone.
As far as Juventus is concerned, this is a big signing. In the past season, the Italian champions had relied on Alex Sandro and Patrice Evra to fill the full back roles and with both players more comfortable on the left, the right back position was not utilized to its full potential. Dani Alves will be a great addition in this respect as his pace, defensive awareness and experience will add a lot of stability at the back and a certain flare when the team in on the attack.
On the other side of the coin, Barcelona will find that Dani Alves leaving might cause some issues for them. During Alves’ time at the Camp Nou, he was never the hero and players like Neymar, Messi and Suarez always got the spotlight but he was one of their most important unsung heroes. Countless times Dani Alves helped stabilize a shaky defensive and his pace and crossing skills have been the cause of many goals scored by the team. Finding a replacement for such a versatile and skillful player will be hard for Barcelona, especially considering there are not too many world class right backs available.
This transfer market has promised players such as Ibrahamovic, Lukaku, Lewandowski and Diego Costa all up for big money moves but this might still turn out to be one of the most important signings of the summer. Dani Alves will make Juventus a much better team and with the likes of Pogba and Morata the Italian champions might just make a deep run in Europe next season.
