The United States and Ecuador clash Thursday night in the 2016 Copa America quarterfinals at CenturyLink Field.

The United States ended up winning group A after back-to-back victories over Costa Rica and Paraguay. USA has not allowed a single goal in its last two matches and has given up eight shots on goal during that span with 26 shots overall. The United States is far more engaged than it was in its opening match against Colombia, as it’s dialed in defensively and tends to push the pace more offensively when needed. Clint Dempsey has certainly put team USA on his back with two goals and two assists in his last two matches. The United States have made it out of the quarterfinals of Copa America just once, which was in 1995.

United States vs. Ecuador Copa America Quarterfinals Pick, Odds, Prediction - 6/16/16

Ecuador finished second in group B with draws to Brazil and Peru, and a victory over Haiti. Ecuador absolutely dominated Les Grenadiers in its recent match by getting 22 shots overall and 10 shots on goal in a 4-0 victory. Ecuador has relied on its defense throughout the tournament by pitching two shutouts and allowing just eight shots on target in three matches. Ecuador has allowed two or less goals in each of its last five matches. Offensively, Enner Valencia has led the way for La Tricolor with two goals, two assists and 11 shot attempts in his last two matches. This is the first time Ecuador has made the quarterfinals of Copa America since 1997.

The United States is 3-1-2 against Ecuador since 2000 with the only loss coming in 2011 when Jurgen Klinsmann will still finding his way as coach of the team. The US must also find a replacement for DeAndre Yedlin, who earned a second half red card. However, the deciding factor for me in this match is the crowd at CenturyLink Field. Arguably the best soccer crowd on US soil, it will provide an extra boost of motivation for the home team and make things difficult for Ecuador, especially if it gets down early.

This match could go either way, but I see the US finding just enough to move to the semifinals.
