Italy and Sweden meet up in France on Friday morning in a pivotal show down that could determine top spot in the group at the end of 90 minutes.
The Italians came into Euro 2016 with perhaps its lowest expectations ever for the senior men’s team at an international competition as gone are the headliners from recent years past including Fabio Cannovaro, Mario Balotelli, and the ageless Andrea Pirlo but they shocked even the most negative of skeptics by taking down the number two ranked Belgium in their tournament opener. Italy was absolutely flawless at the back and made things very tough on Romelu Lukaku and Eden Hazard and the rest of the Belgium attack in what was a clinical 2-0 final to put them in the driver’s seat to finish atop the group. However, they face off against a Swedish side that was horrendous in their first game against Ireland but still managed a draw and will be out to prove they belong in this tournament with the charismatic and very dangerous attacker Zlatan Ibrahimovic looking to make a statement.

Sweden has had success at this tournament in the past and have been considered a dark horse pick to do some damage in the knockout stage but this year’s squad doesn’t look quite up to the task and will need an exceptional effort to get a win in this one. Sweden knows that Italy is going to park the bus and play very sound, tactical defense and capitalize on any opportunities given the other way but at the same time, Sweden needs points if they’re going to qualify for the knockout stage. This game has all the makings of a prize fight as the Swedes have one of the best attackers in the world in Ibra while Italy might play the best team defense in the world and with everything added up and the magnitude of this game it has a 1-1 draw written all over it.
