Poland look to build on a great result against Germany as they take on a winless Ukraine team that is coming off their second loss in as many games.
Poland scraped by Northern Ireland in their first game of the tournament by a 1-0 final and carried that momentum over into a scoreless draw with the heavily favoured Germans and now can finish atop the group if they can beat Ukraine and edge out Germany on goal differential. Poland has only managed a single goal so far and nothing from Robert Lewandowski but they have also yet to concede and have played very well in the defensive zone and should feel comfortable going up against a Ukrainian side that is likely on the outs after this game. Expect to see Poland play a little more aggressively in the offensive zone and try to hang a few goals on Ukraine as they know Germany will be out to put up a handful of goals against Norhtern Ireland.
Ukraine meanwhile have been a disappointing so far in this tournament and after a tough loss to Germany in their opening game in which Bastian Schweinstiger put the game on ice in the 90th minute they laid an egg against Northern Ireland and have played their way out of the tournament. They will be out to play spoiler here against a Polish side that is ecstatic with where they are right now and will look to build on their effort against Germany and earn the full three here. Ukraine has once been a great men’s national power and will likely get back there again at some point but right now they are not and against a Polish side looking to make some noise I think they are in deep trouble.
