The Czech Republic look to net a big win in their final group stage game of the tournament as they take on a winless Turkish side looking for a break through of their own.
The Czechs came from behind in the late stages of the second half to grab a pivotal point from Croatia in a game that was 2-0 in the 50th minute and was looking like an easy three for Croatia and now the Czechs have a shot at advancing to the knockout stage with a win today. They head into today’s game with a ton of momentum and will look to finish the group stage with four points which could put them ahead of Croatia and into second place in the group and with the latter facing off against a strong Spanish side it could be the Czechs in the driver’s seat who will need a big outing out of goalkeeper Petr Cech and midfielder Tomas Rosicky.
Turkey meanwhile haven’t been great in either of their first two round robin games and were trounced by Spain in their last outing and will likely be playing in their final game of the tournament today. Turkey did have some legs heading into the tournament but they haven’t been able to sustain that momentum as they were placed in a pretty competitive group and it looks as though they are going to come out on the losing end of it. Turkey needs a win and plenty of help if they’re going to emerge out of the group but with the Czechs in a similar position they know it’ll be difficult. The Czechs are the better team and will need to be aggressive here and while I don’t see them getting out of the group I do think they can put themselves in a good position with a win here.
