Iceland and Austria look to book their tickets to the knockout stage at the expense of the other as they meet up on Wednesday in Group F action.
Iceland looks to continue their impressive run at the European championship as they have recorded back to back draws and have yet to lose a game so far and now with a chance to move on to the knockout stage on the line they will look to get their first win. Iceland has been on either side of some lucky bounces and with the way they have played through the first 180 minutes of this tournament they have looked the part of a team advancing to the next round and could possibly slip through into the quarterfinals if they continue to improve with each match. However, they end the group stage with a show down with Austria who heads into this one coming off a draw with Portugal and will need the full three points here if they’re going to have a shot at advancing to the next round but things look bleak for them right now.
Austria took on e on the chin in their tournament opener against Hungary as they conceded the game’s first goal and were forced to play catch up late in the game and as such they got caught out of position which led to a game sealing second marker in the late stages of the second half. Austria looked much better against Portugal though and while they could very well have been left without a point for the second straight match they were given a second win here and if they can grab an early lead they will be in a good position to challenge for a spot in the next round. If not though, Iceland has the talent to grab all three and book their ticket to the next round and I am taking a swing with them here as they have been impressive to watch and stand a shot at winning outright here.
