The Italians look to emerge out of their group with three victories and coast into the knockout stage as they take on Ireland to finish out the group stage.
Italy heads into their third round robin fixture looking to earn their third win in as many tires and silence the masses who have counted them out since the start and if they continue to play the way they have in the defensive third they should have no issues. With an opening victory against Belgium and a follow up against Sweden, Italy has already locked up top spot in the pool and will emerge into the group stage but they will have to be sharp here as Ireland needs a victory to have a chance at getting through and they will be full steam ahead from the first whistle. Luckily for the Italians though, they have yet to concede a goal with wins at 2-0 and 1-0 while Ireland suffered a heartbreak draw against Sweden to kick things off then got thumped by Belgium in their last outing.
Ireland was a dark horse pick to emerge out of the group as a runner up and they still have a shot at getting through as the two seed if they can get a win against Italy and Belgium and Sweden draw. The Irish spoiled a great opportunity in their tournament opener but a late own goal tied things up and stole two pivotal points and they couldn’t harness any of that momentum against a frustrated Belgian side that was out for blood after their own tournament opener gaffe. Ireland needs to solve the Italian fortress and continue to stay aggressive in the attacking third and put pressure on the Italian back line but whether ot not they can do so is a completely different story. Italy would love to wrap up top spot with a positive result and whether that means they sit back and get a draw remains to be seen but either way this one should be close and stay under the number.
