Italy look to continue their impressive tournament with a quarter final victory against the defending World Cup champions from Germany in the most anticipated draw in the round of eight.
Italy has put on a defensive clinic in this tournament and will look to do so against one of the most prolific offenses in the world as they face off against a German side that has cruised through the tournament to date and still have reached top form. Italy was given virtually no chance to win this tournament and many had them bowing out in the group stage but they have reasserted themselves as one of the best sides in the world despite not having an influx of big name talent but they have certainly played a team game and have instilled very sound tactics. Italy will face their biggest challenge yet as they take on a German side that has undergone some changes since their World Cup triumph two years ago and will look to avenge their loss against Spain in the 2-12 Euro Cup final.
Germany meanwhile didn’t quite put on the show many expected in the group stage that was low lighted by a draw with Poland but they still emerged top of the group and put on a show in their round of 16 victory over Slovakia. Germany have so many weapons to work with in the mid field and up top and have a very solid back line that has anchored by the world’s best goalkeeper in Manuel Neuer and while Italy has been very stingy through four matches they are going to be in tough here against a German side that will only beat themselves. Germany will turn to the likes of Gotze, Ozil, and Kroos to lead them to glory once again and while they are going to have their hands full here I do think they get the win in the end. However, Italy should have enough here to send this game into extra time as their back end and team defense should withstand through 90 minutes before eventually succumbing after that.
