Middle of the table clash from St James Park on Saturday as Newcastle United look to continue their two game winning streak when they face an inform Stoke City.
Stoke have had some excellent results this season already, a win over Arsenal was followed up with taking points of Manchester United, the first points Mourhino's team have dropped this season. Mark Hughes team was heavily favoured for relegation prior to the season starting and an opening weekend loss to Everton did not help. But the Potters have been excellent since that defeat, a win at home to Arsenal followed by two draws has left people wondering whether this Stoke City side can push for a top half finish. Hughes additions of Choupu Moting and Jese has reinvigorated the Potters up front and Darren Fletcher coming in to midfield has bolstered an already strong area for stoke. Kurt Zouma was a great signing from Chelsea and has been a rock at the back this season. Stoke are going to be tough to beat and I expect them to put in a good performance on saturday.
Newcastle looked terrible in their opening two games, defeats to Tottenham and Huddersfield had people wondering if the Magpies could stay up this season. while Rafa Benitez is a terrific manager a lack of investment in the off season had some fans and pundits questioning Mike Ashley's ownership. But Newcastle rebounded with an excellent home win against West Ham and an away victory at Swansea led by a terrific defensive display. While Newcastle did manage three goals against West Ham they do not look like the most potent strike force. Joselu who came across from Stoke is yet to find his feet in the Premier League but perhaps a game against his former team might prove to be the cherry he needs. Mitrovic is a work horse who puts himself about and this physical encounter will suit his talents , will he score enough goals to keep Newcastle up? Its tough to see that happening and while Dwight Gayle was excellent last season his record in the Premier League is patchy with fifteen goals in sixty four appearances, not a great record but considering there were only 27 starts in those 64 appearance he does have the talent to improve.
I've been impressed with Stoke City this season and while they are slightly behind in the league table I think this is a team that can push on and surprise a few pundits along the way. Stoke are hard working and will be tough to break down. Conceding only three goals in their first four games and two of those to the free scoring Manchester United. I like Stoke City here on the handicap and wouldnt mind having a little cut at them on the moneyline as well.
