What a match up in week 2 of the Champions League, Bayern Munich a perennial top dog in the Champions League travel to the Parc des Princes to take on a new look PSG who broke the transfer record to take Neymar from Barcelona and cheated the Financial Fairplay rules by signing a loan deal for Mbappe from Monaco.
This one is going to be really interesting. Bayern Munich have had a stuttering start to their domestic campaign with a loss to Hoffenheim and a draw last friday with Wolfsburg. Carlo Ancelotti though has an incredible team to chose from with the addition of Tolisson,Coman and Rodriguez this summer Bayern got even stronger. Lewandowski, Robben, Vidal , Kimmich along with the new additions provide so much strength in depth upfront and in midfield that it's difficult to understand why Bayern have struggled. Of course there is a bedding in period for every team, with the addition of new players comes a getting to know each other phase. Bayern though in my opinion are one of the strongest sides in Europe, in Ancelotti they have one of the most knowledgable managers in Europe and he will set his team up for success in what will be a really tough challenge.
PSG are definitely trying to buy their way to some history. The Parisian side have smashed the World transfer record to buy Barcelona's second best player Neymar, the club paid over €200million to bring the Brazilian to Paris and to be fair he has been sensational since his debut. There are rumours of some unrest in the club though as Neymar has already apparently had a falling out with striker Edison Cavani over who should take a penalty. The team has tried to quash these rumours but with Neymar already the center of speculation over jealousy with Lionel Messi at Barcelona it's tough to think that there isnt a little bit of ego massaging needed to get the best of the brilliant Brazilian. On Wednesday though PSG will face their first proper test as they take on perennial Champions League powerhouses Bayern Munich. The Champions League is where PSG have struggled in recent years. Reaching the knockout stages every season before sensationally crashing out. None more than last season's effort after winning the first leg 4-0 against Barcelona they proceeded to lose the second leg 6-1 with the aformentioned Neymar inspiring Barca to victory. But PSG have now brought in Neymar and Mbappe, two of the best strikers in the world and with Cavani already on the books this looks like a frightening front three.
This is a really great match up with two very attacking minded teams here. With Bayern Munich struggling a little bit it's temptng to go with this new look PSG but I dont trust PSG to win a game against a team of this magnitude. I think Bayern will put in a strong performance here and I am going to take Bayern on the handicap in what really should be a great game to watch.
