A massive game for Manchester United on Saturday as they face a struggling Southampton team at Old Trafford, can Jose Mourhino's men get a much needed win to lift their festive spirits?
Southampton have been in a tough run of form, the saints are just 0-2-3 in their last five overall and have just announced that Virgil Van Djik, arguably their best and definitely their most important player is leaving for Liverpool on the 1st of January and will not play in this game on Saturday. Southampton were hammered 5-2 at Wembley by Arsenal on St Stephens day and it doesnt get any easier for them as they travel to Old Trafford to take on a Manchester United team who have been frustrated in their last two league games. Southampton will look to the pace of Shane Long up front to plough a lone furrow or may go with the goalscoring Charlie Austin who may pounce on any mistakes by United's back four. It's unlikely that Southampton go to Old Trafford to play an expansive game though so expect the saints to provide most of their threats on the counter attack, through Tadic and Boufal on the wings.
Manchester United need a win, they need a big win and Romelu Lukaku and co need a big performance. I think they get it here. Southampton without Van Djik are going to struggle to deal with both the size of Lukaku and the speed on the wings of Lingaard, Martial and Rashford. I expect Mata or Mkhitarian to pull the strings here but more importantly i expect Jose Mourhino's side to go out and go for the jugular early. This one could be another game where United score four or five, I have that sort of a feeling that this is going to be the free flowing performance United need to lift the pressure being applied by Manchester City's performances and the chasing pack of Tottenham, Spurs and Chelsea.
Going to take Manchester United to win by 3 or more here at a big price.
