One of the games of the weekend will see Everton travel to Anfield to take on their great rivals Liverpool.
The third round of the FA Cup has been highlighted by the draw throwing together Everton and Liverpool, we will have the first Merseyside Derby in the cup since Liverpool beat Everton in the semi finals' back in 2012. Everton come into this game on something of a slump. The toffee's are 1-2-2 in their last five overall and havent won in their last four outings. Sam Allardyce is finding the going hard for the first time since taking over as Everton boss. Allardyce sent his side to Anfield in early December and came away with a 1-1 draw. The game was defined by Everton's resiliant defending, Wayne Rooney precise pass sent Calvert Lewin clear in the dying moment only for a clumsy tackle in the box to result in a penalty, converted by Rooney, that earned the blue side of Liverpool a draw and rave reviews for Allardyce's managerial abilities. On Friday night Big Sam will have an opportunity to test himself against Jurgen Klopp's high flying side who are unbeaten in eighteen in all competitions.
While the FA Cup is a massive competition one of the biggest and most prestigious in World football, Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool may have bigger fish to fry right now as they concentrate on the Premier League top four battle and the upcoming knockout stages of the Champions League. Klopp will be without standout Mo Salah who has been sensational this season but is currently sidelined with an injury picked up last Saturday in the win against Southampton. Liverpool are 4-1-0 in their last five overall and 3-2-0 in their last five games at Anfield. Klopp may look to give some of the reserve players who have not had much game time a run here. I expect to see a Liverpool team featuring Danny Ings and possibly Daniel Sturridge if fit.
This one is a really interesting match up. I expect Allardyce to go all out for a win here, the FA Cup is without doubt Everton's best hope of a trophy this season and this being a bitter rivalry game in Anfield a win here would be worth 3 or 4 victories elsewhere. Everton are a huge price and while it's tough to see the Blues getting it done I think that taking Everton on the handicap here is a smart play. Wouldnt be absolutely shocked if Everton did pull of a shock here though.
