One of the most intruging ties of the FA Cup 3rd round will see high flying Championship side Derby County travel to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United.
Derby are 3-2-0 in their last five in all competitions. Derby are also unbeaten in their last nine away games in all competitions. Gary Rowett's side are in fine form and are up to second in the Skybet Championship. There will be question marks over whether Rowett will play a full side here as winning promotion from the Championship would be worth so much more to Derby in the long term. This is a presitigous competition though and the games wont come any bigger than against Manchester United. This derby team has plenty of Premier League experience in it's squad with Huddlestone, Nugent, Wiemann and Carson. This is definitely a team that wont be phased by playing against Manchester United or in Old Trafford. Derby could be the second team to shock Manchester United in the cup , as Manchester United were knocked out of the League Cup by Bristol City at the start of December.
Manchester United are 1-3-1 in their last five in all competitions. Jose Mourhino's side though are not playing very well and they dropped important points over the Christmas fixture list failing to beat Southampton, Burnley and Leicester. All three games were must win for Manchester United to put pressure on Manchester City and really at the moment it just looks as if Manchester United will be fighting it out with Liverpool, Spurs and Chelsea for second best in the Premier League. Injuries to lukaku and Ibrahimovich will see either Rashford or Martial lead the line for Manchester United. While many are predicting Mourhino will play a weakened side I dont see any reason why the Manchester United manager should. United next compeititive fixture is not until January 15th so his players will get a full ten days rest. Expect to see United at full strength on Friday night.
Given that it's a Friday night and a Cup game there should be a carnival type atmosphere for this one. I expect Derby to go at United and likewise I expect United to go all out for the win here. Goals look a certainty and thats where I am looking for my play here. Take over 2.5 goals at generous odds in what should be an end to end battle between two teams with pleny of firepower.
