One of the great stories of the third round of the FA Cup will be the return of Jamie Vardy to his former club Fleetwood Town. How many people thought that when Vardy left Fleetwood he would go on to score 24 goals in the Premier League season and lead Leicester City to the Premier League title?
This one is a real David v goliath game as Fleetwood Town, struggling in mid table of League One will take on a Leicester City side who have risen to ninth in the league table after a poor start to the Premier League season. Uwe Rosler has a tough task ahead of him on Saturday as he looks to put out a team to handle the pace and power that Leicester will have. Fleetwood struggled in their first game of 2018, losing at home to Bradford City after taking an early lead they succumbed to two second half goals. If Fleetwood are to spring a surprise here they will be looking to leading scorer Devante Adams, the former Manchester City u19 player has 10 goals in 26 appearances this year. Paddy Madden, Fleetwood's newest arrival may bring some goals with him from Scunthorpe. Madden has always been a prolific front man for Scunthorpe but has struggled this season with just two in fifteen appearances. Madden though is a poacher and will suit the way Fleetwood play, personally I think this will be a good signing for both the player and the club.
Leicester City are really in a no win situation here, this is a game they are supposed to win. Claude Puel though will have one eye on the fixtures coming up and may consider resting Vardy and Mahrez. I believe that Vardy will play though given his history and coming to Leicester from Fleetwood. It would be a big occasion for the League One club and one that I think Vardy will relish. Leicester are 1-1-3 in their last five overall and I think the Cup will be an opportunity for Leicester to win a competition. Puel will be aware of this so while he may change things up and play some of the reserve players like Slimani and Ulloa I think he will still put out a strong side.
Isnt much value in taking Leicester City here. The weather could also be a factor and the pitch. Jamie Vardy scored 31 one goals for Fleetwood when he played here and I expect him to find the net here. I'm taking Jamie Vardy to score anytime in what should be an enthrawling encounter. But the pick for me here is the draw, I think Fleetwood manage to earn a replay against the Premier League big boys.
