Toronto FC and FC Dallas meet Friday in MLS soccer action at BMO Field.

Toronto FC enters this match with an overall record of 3-6-1, a 3-2-1 record at home and a 0-4-0 record on the road. Toronto FC could use a feel good home performance after losing three of their last six matches. Toronto FC has had some issues on the defensive end this season, allowing 1.9 goals per game overall and pitching just one shutout in 10 matches. The good news for Toronto is its played its most consistent ball by far at home and has been in much more control when playing in front of its home fans. While this may be a slow start, nobody in Canada is panicking just yet, as we are talking about the defending champs and a team that’s made the championship back-to-back years. Sebastian Giovinco leads Toronto with two goals, Victor Vazquez has two assists and Ager Aketxe has 24 shots.

Bob DeChiara-USA TODAY Sports

FC Dallas enters this match with an overall record of 4-1-5, a 3-0-4 record at home and a 1-1-1 record on the road. FC Dallas has earned points in each of its last three matches and is starting to make progress in the competitive Western Conference. FC Dallas has relied on its defense so far this season, allowing just 1.1 goals and giving up one or less goals in seven of their 10 matches overall. Once this club starts to find some consistent offense rather than two players doing all of the heavy lifting, you’re looking at a team that’s going to be tough to play this season. FC Dallas is a team to watch at the moment. Roland Lamah leads Dallas with five goals, Mauro Diaz has six assists and Maxi Urruti has 32 shots.

FC Dallas has owned Toronto FC over the years, winning three of the last four matches and going 3-1-1 in the last five matches overall. Toronto’s only win over Dallas during that span came in May of 2016. Four of the last five matches between these clubs have produced at least three goals.

I like the way Dallas is playing right now, as that defense shows up night in and night out, and you have to like those odds given the way Toronto has had issues with consistency. Not to mention the head to head numbers favoring the road team here. However, it’s only a matter of time before Toronto turns things around, and they usually show up at home and get the job done. Both sides are drastically improved when they play at the BMO Field.

I like Toronto to get a much needed victory.
