New England Revolution and Atlanta United FC meet Wednesday in MLS soccer action at Gillette Stadium.
New England Revolution enters this match with an overall record of 5-4-3, a 4-2-1 record at home and a 1-2-2 record on the road. New England Revolution have earned points in four of their last six matches and have a chance at a statement performance to continue climbing the standings in the East. New England Revolution have been very stingy on the defensive end this season at home, allowing one or less goals in five of its seven matches and that includes a shutout over the current West leader Sporting Kansas City. As long as that defensive pressure continues, the Revolution have a chance to earn their best victory of the season at this point. Teal Bunbury leads New England with six goals, Wilfried Zahibo has four assists and Cristian Penilla has 32 shots.

Atlanta United FC enters this match with an overall record of 8-3-1, a 4-2-1 record at home and a 4-1-0 record on the road. Atlanta United FC are still the leaders in the East, but they have lost two of their last three matches and have allowed a combined six goals in their last three matches. Defense has been calling card for Atlanta United FC this season, but we’re seeing a bit of a slippage recently, despite the average of goals allowed on the road is still a solid 1.2 per match. Atlanta United FC has won four straight road matches since losing its season opener to Houston Dynamo. We’ll see if some recent hiccups leak to the road for the first time in a long time. Josef Martinez leads Atlanta with eight goals, Miguel Almiron has five assists and Hector Villalba has 18 shots.
These two teams played twice last September, and Atlanta United FC won the first meeting 7-0 while producing a 0-0 draw in the second match. Needless to say, New England has zero goals scored in two matches against Atlanta United FC.
Even with Atlanta’s recent struggles, I can’t bring myself to take a New England team that has yet to score against this club in two matches. Instead, I’m looking at the over. The Revolution are very tough defensively at home and Atlanta is positioned where it is currently due to its defense. Also, it’s not like either of these clubs are offensive powerhouses, as they’re averaging a combined 1.9 goals per match. I expect this to be another defensive battle like the last match between these clubs.
Give me the under.
